Each year, the Northeast Ohio Nurse Practitioners provides the Joan German Scholarship Fund. Last year, NEONP expanded this scholarship program and now makes annual $1,000 awards each to two deserving, eligible NP students.

NEONP's scholarship program is named in memory of Joan German who was an OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner who truly believed in and practiced better healthcare for women.  Joan served as NEONP's Program Committee Chair for many years, and we are proud to name this scholarship program after her.

The deadline to submit scholarship application materials for this year was October 30, 2010.  The next application process and deadline will be during the autumn of 2011. To review last year's Joan German Scholarship application package, click here.

The Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation has announced its 2010-2011 Student Scholarships & Awards Program, including two new scholarships. NPHF's program now includes five scholarships and 12 awards, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The scholarships and awards are:

• NEW: The NPHF-Proctor & Gamble Endowed Scholarship in Community Service (1 to be awarded).

• NEW: NPHF-Proctor & Gamble Endowed Scholarship in Gastroenterology (1 to be awarded).

• NPHF-Astellas Heart Health Through the Ages Awards (3 to be awarded).

• NPHF-ARNPs United Primary Care Outcomes Research Award (1 to be awarded).

• NPHF-AstraZeneca Diversity Scholarship Program (3 to be awarded).

• NPHF-sanofi-pasteur Health Through Immunizations Awards (3 to be awarded).

• NPHF-Purdue Pharma Pain Management Awards (5 to be awarded).

The Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses $1,500 scholarship is offered to promote advanced practice nursing and to support professional development. It is a cash award to be used for tuition and/or books.  The scholarship will be presented at the annual OAAPN Statewide Business Meeting, usually held on the first Thursday in November.

The application deadline is May 15, 2011. Incomplete applications will not be considered for the scholarship award.

In order to recognize the contributions of APNs in the State of Ohio, the Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses gives annual "Excellence Awards" in these areas: Education, Political Action, Practice, Research, and Service; and The Legislator of the Year and other recognition awards.

Each year, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners recognizes outstanding achievements by NPs and NP advocates by presenting the AANP State Awards for Excellence throughout the year and the nation. The State Award for Excellence recognizes an NP in a state - such as Ohio - who demonstrates excellence in practice, research, NP education or community affairs.

The Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation/Alpharma Pain Management Award is given to four graduate Nurse Practitioner students and/or practicing NPs to support research or educational projects related to pain management.
