About Nurse
Practitioners, Our Members...
A Nurse
Practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse (RN) who has
advanced education and clinical training in a healthcare
specialty area.
NEONP members practice under the rules and regulations of
the Nurse Practice Act of Ohio. Most NEONP members are
nationally certified (CNP) in their specialties and
recognized as expert healthcare providers.
Our members serve as primary healthcare providers for
children and adults during health and illness. In order to
provide complete healthcare, NPs:
|
Obtain
medical histories and
perform physical examinations |
|
May
prescribe medications
and other treatments |
|
Order,
perform, and interpret
diagnostics such as lab work and x-rays
|
|
Diagnose
and treat acute health problems |
|
Diagnose,
treat, and
monitor chronic diseases
|
|
Provide
prenatal care and
family planning services |
|
Provide
well-child care,
including screening and immunizations |
|
Research studies have documented that NPs provide:
|
High
quality care
Cost-effective
care
Care
that results in a
high level of patient satisfaction
|
Because of their clinical experience and advanced training,
NEONP members are able to serve in many healthcare
settings, including family planning centers, physician
offices, hospitals and clinics, schools, public health
facilities, industrial health services, and nursing homes.
NPs also counsel patients on ways to maintain wellness, so
that good health becomes a matter of prevention. Our members
work hard to raise the level of quality of care that
patients receive, through enhanced communication combined
with clinical nursing expertise.
Because of their focus on learning a patient's concerns and
lifestyle, Nurse Practitioners bring a deeper understanding
of, and a more effective approach to, maintaining a
patient's health. |
